Hello all !
You're reading a Vale Runner - it must be Christmas! Sorry it has been so long since the last newsletter - you just can't get the staff, which is why I got the job, anyway here goes: 2001 has been a pretty good year for us with membership increasing slightly and our own organised events have been very successful. Pewsey 5 Mile road race held separately from the Carnival Half for the first time as an evening event on August 1st was a great success with 112 entries (up 50%) raising £220 for club funds.
Pewsey Carnival Half Marathon
Portman 1500m Fun Run Refreshments raised £77.99 for club funds - a good club fundraiser and thanks to all who worked on this. Well done and thanks to all who helped out to make the above events so successful. Results later in newsletter. |
Website - Roger Strickland has
produced a new website for the club so
news and results (past and present) can
be accessed. Many thanks to Roger for his time and effort on this. Pewsey Vale Running Club web site is: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rdsland/pvrc.htm

Pewsey Hill 10 Mile Multi-Terrain Sunday 24th February 2002 Tina has managed to get Phil Billingham Associates to sponsor our first class MT event this year and we are hoping for a good number of entries. Again we need help on the Saturday and Sunday for this if you are not running, so please help out if you can. Please contact Mark 07779 084881 or Rob 01672 563484 if you, or if you are running on the day, have someone who is available to help out. Results

16th Bishops Castle Tandem Triathlon 30th June 2001 103 teams Steve and Julie Winter Steve - swim 1 km, cycle 30km Julie - run 10km, cycle 5km to finish 18th mixed pair to finish - 34th overall. Julie says this is a really tough event with something resembling a mountain that you have to ride up twice in tlle cycling, and a hilly run that seems to have more ups than downs, (at least the water in the swim was flat) but has good views from the top. Steve and Julie finished in 2hrs 41mins 4secs (fastest time went to Ironman Triathletes- 1hr 57mins 21secs) Julie suggests we get together some teams from the club for the 2002 event!

The Vale Runner - March 2002 Page 1
Hello all!
Let's start by welcoming all our new
members to Pewsey Vale Running Club,
who have joined since the start of the
year.
Contact Rob 01672 563484 if you need a
new membership form.
Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7pm
at the Sports Centre.
The 5k handicap time trial, which is
held on the first Tuesday of the month,
will be moving to the summer MT
venue at The Golden Swan, Wilcot,
starting from April 2nd at 7:00pm.
The time trial has become very popular
not only for the race training, but as a
kind of club social (even more so at
the pub), and because of the time
handicap, anyone can win the monthly
trophy.
(held Saturday January 26th)
Thanks to Julie, Caroline and helpers
Tina and Nicola for their time and
effort in making the evening
successful, sociable and a good laugh.
Many thanks also to Rob for his part in
organising the bufffet for the evening.
Race Organisation for our 10 Mile
Hilly/5 Mile Evening Race/
Carnival Half and 1500m Fun Run.
Our annual club events are always a
success and although many members
and friends of the club help out on the
day, the actual organization falls to a
small group of individuals who end up
taking care of all the planning, for all
the races.
It is for this reason the suggestion was
put forward that maybe we could split
the workload, and if enough members
were willing to take on the responsibility
we could organize our events in a slightly
different fashion.
This would entail the setting up of two
different race organization groups, one
for the 10 Mile Hilly, and one for the
Carnival Half/1500m Fun Run.
The Five Mile which takes much less
organizing as it is now a separate
evening race could be worked out
more easily.
The planning of the races could be
arranged as it is now, with input from
all the experienced members at a
planning meeting, but the essential
tasks of marking out the course, liaising
with the Sports Centre, marshalling etc
being undertaken by the group
responsible for the particular event.
Some of the members who play a
pivotal role presently, I am sure would
have no objection to carrying on in the
setting up of all the events, but I am
sure you would agree it is inly fair to
spread the workload if it is possible.
I know we have members who are
more than up to the task and if people
come forward maybe we can hold a
meeting to discuss the possibilities.
I stress this is only a suggestion for
discussion at this point in time.
Members interested in getting involved
please contact Mark 07779 084881.

26th December 2001
11 Teams competed.
P.V.R.C. entered two teams named the
Explosives and the Dynamites
(probably more due to the turkey, xmas
pud etc, consumed the day before,
than to actual athletic prowess in most
cases) for this annual Boxing Day
event with eleven teams competing on
a very cold morning.
Pewsey Explosives took the lead from
the Dynamites from the start, and
increased the gap up to leg four, but
the Dynamites recovered strongly in
leg five and the stage was set for real
race glory in the last leg number
six, in which the Dynamites managed
to come in just nine seconds ahead of
the Explosives.
This was the closest of finishes for the
Pewsey teams and they came in third
and fourth positions overall.

At the finish at Pewsey Wharf the
Dynamites had run 6 legs in 2 hrs
45mins 15 secs, and the Explosives in

The club record of 2hrs 33mins 05secs
set in 1996 still stands, and must be
one to go for this year.

This year's race was very hard and demanding due to the preceding very
wet weather.

mud, floods, stiles, hills, streams,
boggy fields, ploughed fields, water
crossings and a hill climb to the finish.
The event is well organised and
marshalled, with a T shirt to all finishers.
