P.V.R.C. Charity 10k Road Race

Members of Pewsey Vale Running Club are pictured below handing over a cheque for £1,660 raised from the proceeds of our Charity 10k Road Race to Pathfinders (Swindon) a voluntary group at a monthly time trial meet at the Golden Swan in Wilcot.

Pewsey Vale Running Club originally organised the 10k Road Run to raise cash for the victims of the Tsunami, but because of its popularity and success as a fundraiser the club decided to hold the race annually to raise money for good causes.

In 2006 £1,300 was raised from the event for Pathfinders, and this year the club again unanimously chose this very deserving group of people to receive the cash because of the way the organisation, with the help of dedicated volunteers enables disabled young people to participate in a wide range of sporting activities, including sailing, skiing and white-water rafting, which in turn helps build independence, self-confidence and self-esteem through doing and achieving in sport and other activities.

The £1,660 raised will go towards funding an adventure holiday for Pathfinders group members in the Lake District later this year.

Pathfinders needs constant funding, and the help of dedicated caring volunteers to continue supporting disabled youngsters, so if any readers/listeners are able to help please call Jeannie Clifford 01793 706270 (www.communigate.co.uk/wilts/pathfinders).

Club Details

Pewsey Vale is a large village in the heart of beautiful countryside in the Eastern part of Wiltshire. It is 7 miles South of Marlborough, and 18 miles North of Salisbury. It has 7 pubs, primary & secondary schools, shops, churches, a sports centre, one of the best annual carnivals anywhere and Pewsey Vale Running Club.

The Club has around 50 members, and concentrates on Road, MT and Cross-Country running.

Club nights are Tuesday & Thursday at Pewsey Sports Centre, at 7:00pm. Any one interested in becoming a member, or who would like to try it out first, or any visitors from other clubs who are in the area and fancy a run, just turn up - you'll be very welcome. It should go without saying that this applies to both Ladies and Gentlemen.

Note that between April and September, on the 1st Tuesday of each month, the club night relocates to the Golden Swan in nearby Wilcot, and time trials are held. These are handicap events over short road distances, with handicaps based on recent performance, so anyone can win.
